While it’s true that bumper stickers and decals stick like they’re supposed to last forever, the truth is they fade, crack, and peel.

If you do not have a plastic scraper, an old credit card will work. Once you have successfully removed the sticker/decal, use hot soapy water and a cloth to remove any residue.

Using Rubbing Alcohol 

Rubbing alcohol is an item that most of us likely have in our medicine cabinet. This is a great way to remove stickers/decals from glass or remove sticker residue from other surfaces.

The alcohol dissolves the adhesive the sticker/decal, making it easy to remove.

You will need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Razor blades 
  • Cotton balls
  • Paper towels

Start by pouring some rubbing alcohol onto a couple of cotton balls. Press these on to the sticker and allow them to sit for a few minutes. This will loosen the adhesive of the sticker/decal. then, holding the razor blade at an angle, gently pry up the sticker/decal.

  • Hot water

Start by using your fingernail/plastic scraper to remove as much of the sticker/decal as you can. Once you have done this, spray some WD40 on the sticker/decal and allow it to soak for a few moments. This will loosen the adhesive.

Using Soap and Water

Start by using a hair dryer on the highest heat setting. If you have a heat gun, that would be better. Hold the heat source over the sticker for approximately one to two minutes. Once it is heated, quickly peel one corner of this sticker/decal and slowly pull it from the surface.

Don’t allow the adhesive to cool before peeling it. You want to make sure that it is still hot In order for it to come all the way off in one piece. You can use paper towels and warm water to remove any excess residue.

Using Cold

This removal method for stickers/decals is fairly simple and straightforward. You simply need a few ice cubes and some patience.

Get an ice pack from the freezer or make one using ice cubes and a zip top baggie. Place the ice pack over the sticker/decal to harden the adhesive. This will make it less sticky and gooey.
