How You Can Make Your Car Shine

When you first buy a new car, it is so shiny that you can see your reflection in it. As time goes on, that shine begins to dull. However, you can bring that shine back by following this five-step method. This routine is extremely simple and not only will you have a shiny car again, you won’t have to pay a detail shop to do it for you.

Of course, while you may already have some of the items that you will need- such as a water hose or pressure washer, you may need to invest some money into products that you will be using. These products will last you for several sessions, which means they can potentially save you hundreds of dollars.

Products You Will Need

  • Water hose/pressure washer
  • Snow foam cannon
  • Snow foam car shampoo
  • Two buckets
  • Grit guards for buckets
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Microfiber wash mitts
  • Clay bar
  • Car Polish
  • Car wax

Steps for Making Your Car Shine

Now that you know what you need to make your car shine like glass, we will take a look at the 5-step process for achieving this.

Snow Foam Your Car

In order to ensure a glass like shine, you need to decrease your chances of scratching the surface from the very beginning. Small scratches/swirls deflect the light, creating a dull appearance. Imagine rubbing sandpaper all over a shiny car panel, this will create fine scratches causing the paint look dull.

When washing your car, you must understand that using a sponge equals scratches. As you wash, the sponge picks up dirt particles and drag them across the car. These fine swirls and scratches are the reason your paint no longer looks as shiny as when you bought it.

To avoid these scratches and swirls, you must remove the dirt and grit without actually touching the car with your hands. This is where snow foam comes in. You can spray it all over your car. It will react with the dirt and grime and lift it off of the surface. As it slowly slides over the surface, it takes much of the dirt with it. The time it spends on the vehicle is critical because the longer it stays, the more dirt comes off.

Sense snow phone stays on the car longer, in the same much better option than regular soap and water.

How to Snow Foam Your Car

  • With the water hose or pressure washer spray the car with clean water.
  • Attach Snow Foam Lance to pressure washer. If you don’t have a pressure washer, a weed killer pump gun will work.
  • Add snow foam blend to bottle.
  • Spray vehicle and allow to sit for 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with clean water from water hose or pressure washer.

This will remove the dirt from the vehicle without a grit filled sponge touching it.

Wash Car with 2 Buckets

Now that you have safely removed most of the dirt and grime, it’s time to wash the car with human contact with the two-bucket system. This is very important if you want to make your car shine like glass.

What is the Two-Bucket System?

The two-bucket system is exactly what it sounds like. You are using two buckets to wash the car. One will be filled with water and soap, the other with clean water. Both buckets should have a grit guard at the bottom which is a plastic structure that’s it’s a couple of inches from the bottom of the bucket to separate the grit from the water, allowing you too did the wash mitt into the bucket without touching the bottom.

Take your microfiber mitt and soak it in the bucket with soap. Then, starting at the top, wash the car. After completing one panel, rinse them it in the clean water. Rub it across the grit guard and then take it out and wring it. By doing this you decrease the chances of putting scratches and swirls on your paint.

Once you finish washing, you should dry the car with a microfiber towel or car dryer.

Clay Bar Your Car

The third step in making your car shine light glass is to clay bar your car. This will remove all of the imperfections that are stuck to the surface such as road grime, tar, or tree sap. These cause the surface to appear dull and are difficult to remove with a wash mitt and soap and water.

If the surface is good, you may not need to clay bar your car. You can check this by running your hand lightly over the surface to see if you feel any imperfections. Another option is to run a microfiber towel across the surface to see if it snags on anything. Either way, test each panel until all have been tested.

Chances are at least a few of them will still have surface debris.

How to Clay Bar Your Car

Start by removing the bar from the packet and tearing off a piece. Then shape that piece into a disc about size of your hand. This is important because you want to be able to securely hold it and not drop it. If you do drop it, you will have to throw that piece away and get a new one.

Once you have shaped the piece of clay bar, spray your vehicle with a light detail spray or clay lube. Then run the piece of clay bar across surface in a left/right or up/down motion. Do not rub it in circles. It can also be used on windows and headlights.

As you slide the bar over the surface you will feel it grabbing particles. Keep working until it glides smoothly. Then, knead the bar until you find a clear spot and repeat the process on the next area.

Finally, use a microfiber towel to dry the surface and prepare it for the next step in the process. One clay bar can be used for up to 20 times.to

Polish Your Vehicle to Make it Shine

The fourth step in the process of making your car shine light glass is to polish it. This is perhaps the most important step of all.

At this point, you have a surface that is clean and free of debris. The only thing that will get in your way now is any surface scratches or swirls that will deflect the light.

To Polish your car, you will need to use one microfiber cloth to apply the polish and another to buff it off. Another option is a microfiber pad which is a sponge covered with microfiber cloth. These are made to fit your hand.

Start by applying a light coat of Polish in a small area using small circles. Allow it to dry to a haze and then both off with the second cloth or pad. Check your results and repeat as needed.

There are plenty of car polishes on the market that will remove minor swirls an even deeper scratches. This will provide you with the best shine. This step is critical, so take your time and make sure all blemishes are removed before you move to the next step.

Many people mistakenly believe that the final step, waxing, is what makes your car shine like glass. However, the first four steps significantly influence creating the shine that you desire.

Wax to Protect the Shine

The reason to wax the car is to create a protective surface. This will keep the paint on your vehicle from being directly exposed to the elements.

This means that during the summer months, your car is protected from UV rays of the sun and in the winter months, it is protected from ice, snow, rain, hail, and even road salt if you live in an area where they use it.

Typically, this coding is provided by Carnauba wax which comes from Brazilian palm trees and is the best option for car wax. Some do contain beeswax as well. Another substance she might find is Montan wax, which is a coal extract source in California and Germany. This is for darker colored vehicles.

Wax comes in paste or spray form. Paste is the traditional form, but it takes a lot of time to apply. Spray wax can bring the time down to as little as 15 minutes, depending on the size of your vehicle.

Application of the wax is done the same way polishing is. You can use an electric buffer if you wish to speed up the process. However, as mentioned before it can be done by hand.

Conclusion

Now you have the information you need to make your car shine like glass. These steps are fairly straightforward and easy to follow. You will feel satisfied once you have done this.

Keep in mind, that you should not do this in direct sunlight. You will not get the best results for your efforts. This is because it can cause the car to dry too fast, leaving streaks and when you get to the clay bar step it will drag on a dry surface. Also, the Polish or wax will dry quickly, which will make it difficult to remove.

Ideally, you should do this process on a mild dry day, in the shade.
