Dual-Motor AWD: Opt for the dual-motor AWD powertrain with the 77.4-kWh battery, and you’ll enjoy 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque. It’s a speed demon too, going from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Range? It’s rated at 260 miles.

Ioniq 5 N: For those craving even more power, the Ioniq 5 N (coming soon) sports an 84.0-kWh battery and a dual-motor AWD layout, churning out a jaw-dropping 650 hp. This beast is expected to hit 60 mph in about 3.0 seconds, although range may be around 200 miles.

Charging Speed: Most Ioniq 5 models can charge at up to 239 kW, which is pretty zippy. But the N version takes the cake, reaching up to 350 kW. Hyundai claims a lightning-fast 10-80 percent recharging time of just 18 minutes under ideal conditions. In real-world testing, our Ioniq 5 long-term review vehicle went from 7-80 percent in just 20 minutes on a 350-kW charger, covering 14 miles to 198 miles of range. Now that’s speedy!

Safety is a top priority, and every Ioniq 5 comes loaded with driver assist and active safety features, including front automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, side cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high-beams.

If you opt for the high-end Limited trim, you’ll also enjoy a camera view of your blind spots right in the gauge cluster when you activate your turn signals. And for added peace of mind, the Limited model boasts a 360-degree camera.

When it comes to safety ratings, the 2024 Ioniq 5 is expected to shine, just like its predecessors. In 2022 and 2023, it earned a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, the highest accolade. And the IIHS awarded the 2023 Ioniq 5 with the prestigious Top Safety Pick+ designation, their highest honor. Safety is the name of the game!

To earn this rating, a vehicle must have two rear seats with a complete set of anchors and a third seating position with at least an upper tether anchor.

So, how did the 2024 Ioniq 5 do? Well, it received an “Acceptable” rating for child car seat ease of use, just one notch below “Good.” This means it met most of the IIHS’ stringent criteria regarding anchor accessibility, attachment force, and user-friendly hardware for each seating position.

Here are some specific details from the testing:

In positions with complete hardware (typically the outboard rear seats), the lower anchors were positioned a bit too deep in the seat.

Just to be clear, this rating applies to 2022 to 2024 models, and it was based on an evaluation using an Ioniq 5 SEL.

So, while it didn’t snag the top spot, it’s still doing a commendable job in terms of making sure your child car seats are securely installed. Safety first!

Recommended Trim – SEL: We’ve got a recommendation for you in the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 lineup – go for the SEL trim. It strikes the perfect balance between features and value. Specifically, we’d recommend the large-battery single rear motor powertrain. While it may not be as quick or powerful as the dual-motor setup, it offers significantly longer range, which is a win for practicality.

SEL Perks: Even in the SEL trim, you’re in for a treat. It comes generously equipped with a slew of driver aids, an upscale and tech-savvy interior, and impressive electric driving capabilities. You’ll miss out on some of the fancier features found in the Limited trim, like a panoramic glass roof, driver’s seat ottoman, and ventilated front seats. However, you’ll still enjoy color-adjustable ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, upgraded interior upholstery, and other advantages over the entry-level SE trim.

Bang for Your Buck: Considering that the Ioniq 5 SEL starts at around $49,000, which is just about $2,000 more than the SE trim, we believe it’s a worthwhile investment. You get a lot of bang for your buck without breaking the bank.

Ioniq 5 vs. Ioniq 6: What’s the Difference?

Despite the “5” in its name, the Ioniq 5 is not larger than the Ioniq 6; in fact, it’s the other way around.
